The year is 2026 and the United States is embroiled in turmoil that rivals any we’ve seen since its inception. We’ve abducted the leader of a sovereign nation for suspicion of drug trafficking after releasing a former leader of a sovereign nation who had been convicted of the same offense. We’ve launched an attack against a nation in the middle east after vowing not to engage is any more wars. We have pumped money into the defense infrastructure while ignoring the basic needs of our citizens. We called a Harvard Law Educated attorney and judge a DEI hire for being appointed to the Supreme Court, and yet appoint someone without even a bachelor’s degree to a cabinet post. Military Commanders are calling intrusion into Iran God using the current sitting president to initiate the return of Christ, as if God needs our help to accomplish His will.
Still, through all the political drama, one shines through: God is still on the throne.
In Paul’s letter to the church at Rome, he wrote that we know (we have confidence) that ALL things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)
This reassurance keeps the believer moving forward instead of falling back or getting stuck. It’s not a promise that bad days won’t happen and ugly situations won’t surface. It is a reminder that no matter what happens, God knows how to use it to benefit us in the long run, even if we don’t understand it in the moment.
At times like this, when people are trying to tie current events to the book of Revelation, I like to draw attention to Revelation Chapter 3 where John writes: Strengthen what remains.
Instead of fighting among ourselves, instead of putting efforts into growing individual ministry membership roles, instead of building more buildings and doing more TV ministry, God is calling the Church to strengthen what it already has. Bible Study and Worship need to grow - not with lights and smoke machines, but with fear and reverence and longing for God.
